Solid Liverpool halt Brighton’s momentum
Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 to record their first home Premier League win of the season. A Pascal Gross own goal and a strike from Alexander Isak within four minutes decided the game, ending the Seagulls’ run of four straight wins.
Liverpool continue to build momentum. Andoni Iraola’s side won 2-0 against Brighton and now have six victories in their last seven matches in all competitions. With their first home league win of the season, the Reds moved up to fourth place, just a point behind their opponents, who came into the game on a four-match winning streak.
The game was decided in the first half. In the 17th minute, a Ronald Araújo cross found its way to Florian Wirtz, whose scuffed shot deflected off Pascal Gross and into the net. Just four minutes later, Bradley Barcola won the ball from Adam Boscagli, outpaced him and set up Alexander Isak to double the lead. Brighton had their chances too, with Yasin Ayari coming closest when his long-range effort struck Alisson’s post.
After the break, the visitors had more possession and attacked more often, while Liverpool played cautiously and looked to counter. The home defense, however, didn’t allow any serious danger, with Araújo standing out through a series of strong interventions to help secure a clean sheet.
