Djokovic claims 102nd title and a Beijing record after de Minaur retires
Novak Djokovic won a record seventh title in Beijing after Alex de Minaur retired early in the second set of the final. The Serbian has now reached 102 career titles and is just one behind Roger Federer.
Novak Djokovic keeps making history. The 39-year-old Serbian triumphed in Beijing for the seventh time after Alex de Minaur was unable to finish the final due to a groin problem. Djokovic took the first set 7-6(3), and the Australian retired shortly after winning the opening game of the second.
The title is Djokovic's 102nd of his career. Only Roger Federer, with 103, and Jimmy Connors, with 109, remain ahead of him in the Open Era. In Beijing, the Serbian remains unbeaten, with a record of 34 wins and no losses.
The win also gives him a major boost in the race for the ATP Finals. Djokovic climbed six places to ninth in the standings for Turin and now holds a 140-point lead over de Minaur in tenth, who apologized to the crowd for the match ending this way.
